Can you learn to code?

You may think that you have to be a mathematician to learn how to code - Manchester Codes is a part-time coding bootcamp which will prove to you otherwise. Over the course of 24 weeks we will teach you the fundamentals of software development - how to make websites and applications for the web, mobile and even Amazon's Alexa.

By the end of the course, you will have learnt a new skillset and built up a portfolio that will not only make you highly attractive to employers, but will allow you the freedom to go on and start your own venture. Coding is the future - a future that you can be part of, and we will be there for you every step of the way!

Technologies we teach

We focus on JavaScript, as it’s one of the most in-demand technologies at the moment. Not only that, but it’s easy to get started with and there really are no limits to what you can create.

Additionally, we also teach HTML5 and CSS3, allowing you to make applications that are visually appealing. You’ll learn how to set up your development environment effectively, so that you can spend more time coding, and less time worrying about how to get things set up.

Most importantly though, we will teach you programming concepts such as Test-Driven Development and Object-Oriented Programming, which will really make you stand out from the rest.

How is learning structured?

Lessons take place two evenings a week. There is a face-to-face lecture at the start of every lesson where you can interact and ask questions. To reinforce the concepts you have been taught, you will then pair up and work on a project with another student - guided by our bespoke structured walkthroughs.

Each week you will be given an additional project to work on at home, as well as some further reading to help consolidate what you have learnt so far. We recommend you spend an additional 14 to 20 hours a week working through this material at home (ideally 2-3 hours daily in order to reinforce what you have learnt).

Diversity and inclusion

Students are welcomed from all walks of life to join our course. Diversity within our cohorts is something we take very seriously, and we work to create a culture that fosters inclusiveness and acceptance.

Over the duration of the course, you will be practising Pair Programming - pairing with a different student every lesson - and there will also be opportunities to work on projects together as a team. You’ll get to know each other on a personal level, and you’ll have the opportunity to make new friends.

We want everybody - regardless of their background - to be part of this wonderful community. We aim to market the course in a way that makes this happen, but we appreciate that this doesn’t go far enough, which is why we also offer fully-funded scholarships - ensuring that everybody has a chance of success.

Scholarships: Making careers in tech more accessible

As part of our mission to make opportunities in the tech sector accessible to individuals of all professional and social backgrounds and experience levels, we are proud to introduce our scholarship programme.

Manchester Codes believes in the need for a more diverse and equitable tech workforce and community. As part of our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion within the industry, we will be offering at least two fully funded scholarships per cohort. These scholarships will be made available to individuals who have a demonstrable passion for coding and who belong to underrepresented groups in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) industries. This includes but is not limited to: women, BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) individuals, the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities.

However, we also recognise that diversity - and the people who contribute towards it - comes in many forms, so we would also encourage applications from those who have encountered adversity and hardship that could understandably be seen as a barrier of entry into the tech industry.

Applications for our May cohort are now closed. Please join our mailing list to be notified about future cohorts.

Student Testimonials

Jacqui

The course was significantly lower priced than any other in-person course in Manchester and the ability to learn around work made the course great value for money. I believe the course has really accelerated my learning and if I had continued with the free online courses I would not have learnt such a wide range of subjects in the same amount of time.

The lead instructor at Manchester Codes (Joe) was able to better explain various aspects of JavaScript, answer my questions and give individual feedback on my code. By studying with Manchester Codes, I was able to learn quicker and know the best industry practices.
